Ross Family New CD: Prince Edward Island, I'm Coming Home (2010)

This 12-track CD features the title song, "Prince Edward Island, I'm Coming Home," written by Johnny Ross and Real Pelletier. Additional songs are the tradtional "Rattlin' Bog" and the Cajun-laced "Léo," written by Alcide Painchaud, Kenneth Saulnier, and Rachel Saulnier.

Fiddle tunes composed by Danielle Ross include the traditional sounding "Swift Jig," the rock-influenced "DL's Calypso," a slow air titled "Night Sky Daze" and the jazzy "Shadow on the Stairs." "Gilmore Bop" and "Foxy Twist" round out the collection of originals. These tunes are heard in medleys next to traditional standards such as "McNabb's Hornpipe," "Trip to Windsor," and "Farmer's Daughter," along with selections from the libraries of Canadian fiddlers Graham Townsend and Ivan Hicks.

The CD also includes solo piano versions of Gershwin's "Summertime" and the traditional "Loch Lomond."

Guest musicians are Jon Matthews (bass, mandolin) and Mark Geddes (upright bass). Produced by The Ross Family, engineered and mixed by Jon Matthews at Big Grey Sound Studio, Charlottetown, and mastered by J. LaPointe, Halifax. The CD displays paintings of PEI scenery by up-and-coming Island artist, Benjamin Allain.
